About the Role:

The firm is seeking a mid-level associate to join its International Arbitration Practice Group in Washington, DC. This group is recognized globally for its expertise and experience, as noted in publications like Chambers USA, Chambers Global, The Legal 500 US, The Legal 500 Latin America, Global Arbitration Review, and more.


About the Group:

  • Diverse Expertise: The team consists of lawyers from common and civil law backgrounds, with regional specializations and multilingual skills. Many have experience in Washington, DC, having served in key roles at the US Departments of State, Commerce, Treasury, Justice, the US Congress, and multilateral organizations such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
  • Wide-ranging Representation: The firm represents companies, individuals, sovereign states, and state-owned entities in both investor-state and commercial arbitrations worldwide. The team works with various international arbitral institutions and under multiple arbitral rules, including ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, AAA/ICDR, and industry-specific institutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in international arbitrations under major arbitral institutions like the ICC or ICSID.
  • Participate in international investment and commercial arbitrations, especially those arising out of Latin America.
  • Draft pleadings and legal documents.
  • Assist with hearings and interview witnesses.
  • Review civil law sources.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Candidates must have experience in representing clients in international arbitrations, particularly those governed by ICC or ICSID rules, and dealing with cases related to Latin America.
  • Education: Strong academic credentials and excellent references are required.
  • Licensing: Candidates must be licensed or eligible to become licensed to practice law in Washington, DC.
