We are looking for a Senior Technologist for our Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver studio. The senior technologist will lead teams of technologists in the production of detailed contract documents (for large and/or technically complex projects), including drawings and specifications, within a team environment. The senior technologist also provides a technical and production support role through design phases. The individual must have a thorough understanding of the processes of conceptualization, design and implementation of buildings as well as the technological aspects of building design from an engineering and construction standpoint. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Architectural Technology diploma Engineering Design and Drafting diploma and/or Autodesk Revit training certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution Minimum of 7-10 year experience in the design/architectural/engineering industry Post-Secondary Diploma from an accredited school or Architectural Technology Program Training in architectural technology, building technical design and construction WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON: Manages teams of technologists to meet project goals on multiple large projects Establishes, monitors and reports on project schedule, workplans and budget Collaborates with design staff on issues related to code, sustainability and constructability Prepares architectural and interior design contract documents following company standards Conducts on-site verifications of as-built conditionso Conducts building code reviews Oversees production of contract documentso Creates mark-ups and sketches for input into drawings Responsible for design and detailing of complex building elements including exterior envelope Responsible for coordination of energy performance compliance Coordinates appropriate specifications with specification writer including procurement and general requirements Reviews and coordinates contract documents from various disciplines (ie: structural, mechanical, electrical) Chairs and minutes project meetings with client and / or consultant Prepares appropriate documentation for Building Permit applications Communicates and responds to authorities having jurisdiction Provides a lead or support role through contract administration phase: Attend construction site meetings and site reviews Review shop drawings Responds to contractor queries and provides direction as required Manages and completes contract administration paperwork Carries out implementation of record drawings at project close-out Participates in QMS (QA/QC) process including peer reviews of documents from all phases Leads firm initiatives or working groups Contributes to the development of technical standards Works independently with minimal support Keeps supervisor informed of progress and issues as they arise Develops ongoing mentorship relationships with junior and intermediate staff May be required to pick up/drop off permit applications at the applicable authority having jurisdiction Runs prints and photocopies as required May be required to assist in general office duties on occasion May be required to provide support or assist with various tasks at various skills levels as may be required for project and / or firm success
