Job Summary:
The Business Restructuring Department of a national law firm is seeking a skilled Business Restructuring Associate with 3–4 years of experience to join their New York and Chicago office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing debtors and creditors in bankruptcy cases and distressed situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support clients in complex corporate restructuring transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and debt restructuring
- Collaborate with partners to represent clients in negotiations, hearings, and court proceedings related to business restructuring
- Conduct in-depth legal analyses to assess the implications of business restructuring and ensure compliance with laws and regulations
- Draft Chapter 11 filings, term sheets, disclosure statements, plans of reorganization, settlements, and asset purchase agreements
- Maintain effective communication with clients, creditors, and stakeholders involved in the restructuring process
- Stay current on legal developments, precedents, and regulations relevant to business restructuring
Skills/Abilities
- 3–4 years of experience in business restructuring law, with a focus on corporate transactions and bankruptcy
- Strong understanding of bankruptcy laws, creditor rights, and restructuring strategies
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York or Illinois, or eligibility to be admitted quickly
- Preferred experience in a Chambers-ranked bankruptcy department at a large law firm, or a combination of related work and clerkship experience at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
Compensation
In accordance with New York’s Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated salary range for this position is $260,000 - $310,000, with eligibility for a discretionary bonus. For more information on compensation, click here.
