Our client is seeking a paralegal to support their legal team with guardianship, estate planning, and probate matters. Key responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney, health care surrogates, living wills, and preneed guardians for estate plans. The paralegal will also prepare pleadings, motions, and orders, assist with hearing preparations, accountings, legal notices, trust administration post-death, obtain EINs, and manage closing pleadings when a ward passes away. This is a non-exempt position.
Responsibilities:
- Daily: Review reminders and calendar entries; prioritize tasks. Complete assignments and manage emails. Organize and summarize case information and files. Schedule legal events and case milestones. Draft correspondence, reports, and documents. Prepare for meetings, depositions, and hearings. Record billable time.
- Weekly: Meet with associates and the legal team for case status updates. Provide clients with regular updates.
- Monthly: Attend case status update meetings and revise case records accordingly.
- Key Performance Indicators: Achieve 1,400 recorded billable hours per year (averaging 350 hours quarterly). Complete 90% of assigned tasks by their due dates. Maintain professional reliability with no more than three unplanned absences, late arrivals, or early departures within any 90-day period.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a paralegal certification program from an accredited institution.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a Florida law firm focusing on guardianship, estate planning, probate, and trust administration.
- Previous experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant is a plus.
