Description

The firm seeks a highly qualified Patent Prosecution Associate or Patent Agent to join its expanding and dynamic Intellectual Property Practice Group. The position is available in the Houston office, with highly qualified candidates in Atlanta also considered. The ideal candidate will have IP experience with drafting and patent prosecution, with a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees and/or relevant work experience prior to law school or the agency exam are strongly preferred. Membership with the USPTO is required. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of software, controls, and controller systems; experience with electro-mechanical equipment is a plus. Associates should have 4 or more years of experience, while patent agents should have 5 or more years. For the Houston office, candidates must be licensed to practice law in Texas or have the ability to become licensed soon. For the Atlanta office, candidates must be licensed to practice law in Georgia.

Qualifications List

  • Minimum 4 years of experience for associates or 5 years for patent agents in IP, including patent prosecution and drafting.
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees and/or relevant work experience preferred.
  • USPTO membership required.
  • Strong knowledge of software, controls, and controller systems.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical equipment is a plus.
  • For associates in Houston, must be licensed to practice law in Texas or be able to become licensed. For associates in Atlanta, must be licensed in Georgia.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge and experience with other forms of intellectual property protection are a plus.
