Labor & Employment Senior Associate or Counsel

Location: Los Angeles, California

Salary: $345,000 - $415,000


The Los Angeles office of a prominent Am Law 100 firm seeks a Senior Attorney or Counsel for its Labor & Employment Department. The team handles over 4,000 employment-related matters annually for a diverse range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and nonprofits. They offer top-notch defense in single-plaintiff, class, and representative actions involving federal and state claims of discrimination, harassment, trade secret misappropriation, and wage and hour violations. They also counsel employers on all aspects of the employer/employee relationship, including compliance, traditional labor issues, internal investigations, and executive compensation.


The Associate will play a key role in defending wage and hour class actions and PAGA actions, as well as single-plaintiff employment cases in California.


Responsibilities:

  • Handling discovery, witness interviews, and class certification issues.
  • Taking and defending depositions.
  • Preparing and responding to discovery requests.
  • Drafting dispositive motions in state and federal court and arbitration.
  • Representing clients in administrative hearings and proceedings, EEOC/CRD charges, and responses to demand letters.
  • Providing legal research, analysis, and written work product.
  • Advising clients on California labor and employment issues.


Requirements:

  • J.D. degree and admission to the California Bar.
  • 5+ years of relevant California labor and employment experience in a top 100 law firm setting.
  • Experience defending wage and hour class actions and PAGA actions (FLSA collective action experience is a plus).
  • Experience defending single-plaintiff employment cases in California.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Excellent legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
  • Fluent working knowledge of California state and federal court procedural and evidence rules.
