Capital Markets / Structured Finance Associate (5+ Years)

Industry: Finance / Real Estate / Capital Markets

Location: Charlotte, NC

A top-tier law firm is seeking a senior associate with 5+ years of experience to join its Capital Markets team in Charlotte. The ideal candidate will have deep exposure to one or more of the following: repo transactions, asset-backed lending, loan-on-loan, securitization, structured finance or products, and corporate or real estate finance. Experience with CRE CLOs is a plus but not required. The firm is looking for attorneys with strong academic backgrounds and a track record of high-level law firm experience.

Why This Firm

This firm is a recognized market leader in structured finance, especially in areas like CRE CLOs, asset-backed lending, and esoteric securitizations. It frequently advises on complex, high-profile transactions that shape the industry, giving associates access to cutting-edge work and high-level clients. What sets this team apart is its deep technical expertise, lean staffing model, and strong deal ownership from day one. The Charlotte office offers NYC-level transactions in a more livable, collegial setting—making it a standout choice for experienced associates seeking both challenge and balance.

What Associates Say

Associates consistently highlight the high level of responsibility and direct client contact they receive early in their careers. The lean staffing model means junior and mid-level attorneys are deeply involved in every aspect of the deal, not just back-end support. Many describe the training as “on-the-job and fast-paced,” which appeals to those looking to build expertise quickly. The work is demanding, especially in peak deal seasons, but compensation is top-of-market, and the Charlotte office is known for being more tight-knit and collaborative compared to larger coastal offices.

Associates also appreciate that partners are accessible and genuinely invested in their development—something not always found in firms of this caliber. While hours can be long, many feel the quality of work and level of exposure justify the investment.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in capital markets or structured finance
  • Strong transactional experience across one or more product areas
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex deals in a fast-paced environment

Compensation:

Base salary range: $390,000 – $460,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional performance-based bonuses may apply.
