IP Technology Patent Litigation Associate (2+ years)

Industry: Technology

Location: Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, or Washington, DC.

A leading international law firm is seeking a junior to mid-level associate to join its Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, or Washington, DC.

The group includes around 100 attorneys advising clients throughout the lifecycle of their key IP assets— covering patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and more. The Patent Litigation team brings together deep trial and appellate experience with strong technical fluency. Attorneys regularly represent top-tier clients including major tech, life sciences, and consumer brands.

Why This Firm

This firm is consistently ranked among the top U.S. law firms for intellectual property litigation and is known for high-end, complex matters across tech, life sciences, and government-facing sectors. Associates praise the quality of work, strong mentorship, and the opportunity to take on substantive responsibilities early—particularly in patent litigation and PTAB proceedings. The IP group is described as collaborative, with approachable partners and a healthy balance of structure and independence. While hours can be demanding, the firm generally avoids a 'churn and burn' culture, and junior lawyers often highlight the firm’s commitment to training and career development. Hybrid work is respected, though in-office presence is expected several days per week.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • 2+ years of experience in PTAB/IPR, patent litigation in district courts, and/or ITC proceedings
  • A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Familiarity with source code is a strong plus
  • Outstanding academic credentials and references
  • Active bar membership or eligibility to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction

Compensation:

$235,000 to $365,000 base salary, commensurate with experience. Bonus eligibility based on billable hours.

Diversity & Inclusion:

The firm is committed to equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate based on any legally protected status. It also participates in E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility.

Accessibility:

Candidates needing assistance during the application process due to a disability may request accommodation through the firm’s Attorney Recruiting team.
